Basement Turned Swanky Wine Lounge

Many people dream of having their very own wine lounge, but for this Brookhaven, Georgia, family, it’s a fabulous reality. They love wine and had curated an extensive collection that deserved its own cellar, then realized their empty basement provided the perfect canvas on which to build.

They hired Southeast Leisure in Alpharetta, Georgia, to build a custom wine cellar, and the results are truly gorgeous. We consulted on some of the finishes in the glass-enclosed space, then turned to creating an equally stunning space to enjoy the wine with friends and family, as well as a comfortable, but classy hang-out space to spend time with their toddler.

The homeowner had collected a few gorgeous pieces of wood from old wine barrels that we used to construct the tables for their new, restaurant-style lounge area. We added a high-backed upholstered banquette in an elegant emerald shade and added smoky glass pendant lights and a few comfortable chairs so guests can linger over a bottle (or two) and dinner.

Opposite the lounge is a new kitchenette with sleek navy lower cabinets, a crisp white countertop, and brass pulls that add a little bling and contrast. The graphic black-and-white wallpaper adds visual interest, as does the vintage Sophia Loren print and floating wood shelves.

The family room completes the space, with a large, soft sectional, a chair-and-a-half covered in a fun black-and-white print, and a quirky coffee table that just makes us happy. Most importantly, it can all stand up to stains and toddler fingers, while maintaining a cool, artistic vibe.

There might be cooler things than having a swanky wine lounge in your basement, but we honestly can’t think of one.
