Art-loving multicultural family home

Some families come to us with essentially a blank slate to work with, but occasionally a family brings us something really special to create around, and that is a whole other kind of experience. The family brought us their rich and diverse heritage and their incredible art collection to work with, which allowed us to dream up truly unique designs worthy of this beautiful family.

In the living room, the client purchased an incredible large-scale art piece from the spectacular Mexican-French artist Rocio Navarro, and we were all too happy to incorporate it into the design. They already owned the vibrantly hued rug, so we just had it cleaned and added a sisal rug beneath it to properly fit the space and added a giant blue sofa for comfy family hang-outs. The fabulous golden bench under the window gets the best light, so someone is always found laying and reading or drawing there — as it should be. The family loves using the fireplace in this room, so we painted it a bold blue, styled it, and added art and new lighting throughout.

From the living room, you can see into the kitchen and its incredible graphic tile backsplash, which the client found. We selected the salmon, peach, black, and white color palette and added a fun tiger-print fabric shade from Pepper Home over the sink to complement the colorful and fun design.

We simply adore the bold Farrow & Ball wallpaper in the entryway and how it makes a stunning backdrop for their art collection, which we styled as a gallery. After painting the trim green, we added the blue cabinet with linear lines to contrast to the circular lines in the wallpaper and to be a practical catchall for keys and sunglasses.

In the dining room, the curved wooden buffet provides incredible movement that evokes the feeling of ocean waves. Above it hangs art by an Iranian artist, Gohar Dashti, who our client loves. New clean-lined black-and-white candle sconces complete the classy vignette.

This peek from the entryway into the TV room reveals a cool sculptural black side table and more rich, colorful textiles.
