Let the Light In: Bright Windows and Colors Fill this Family Home

When you get to work on a home with large expanses of incredible windows, it’s all about how to love and celebrate that wonderful feature. In our client’s living room, we started with a bold color palette based off this vibrant vintage rug and added a cool modern, boxy orange sofa. Because the homeowners have a large family, we added two swivel armchairs in a green and white print and tossed on vibrant yellow pillows for additional seating. The beautiful wooden chairs back into the sunroom behind them, keeping the view to both rooms open and flowing.

We could not get over how amazing the dining room windows are, so we left them unadorned to allow the full natural light stream in. A custom shelf spans the width of the windows and provides storage for this reading family’s books and a place to display their treasures. The dining room table itself is round and huge and can expand as needed, a must for the large family.

In the kitchen, we added motorized shades in a bright print so they can easily control the intensity of the sun. Beautiful swivel chairs in a confetti print echo the colors and patterns throughout the house and allow the kids to hang out around the kitchen island.

When you walk into the house, you are greeted by a wall of antique balloon molds, a stunning 3D architectural feature. An antique-looking rug in blue, yellow, and black anchors the wood-and-cement console, while baskets below add texture and function as storage.

Their office space is both a music listening and a game room, so it’s no surprise that the record player is well-loved and deserved its own space, with their records stylishly stored and displayed on the wall above. The blue sofa converts to a bed for extra house guests, and the live-edged teak table with root-like legs adds a sculptural element. A game table rounds out this fun hangout space.
